This past Wednesday Cattivo in Lawrenceville hosted Cruisr of Philadelphia, Swimming With Bears of Austin, TX, and Pittsburgh locals Nevada Color. I strolled in a few minutes after the music started and I couldn’t help but notice a solid turn out for Nevada Color kicking off the show around 7pm. The all ages show brought in roughly 40-50 people to see all three acts that have built their own local fanbase.

Nevada Color kicked things off the show with a pretty energetic set that got the crowd moving. Their stage presence almost seemed to big for the basement of Cattivo. The lead singer made his way off the stage and into the crowd to sing along with some fans, dodging balloons and even a paper airplane or two being thrown around. Their catchy, folk pop sound has been well received since the bands formation at Point Park University around 2012. If you want to check them out, the band recently released new music via USB wrist bands for anyone that signs up for the bands mailing list. They are encouraging fans to bring the band back to shows to be loaded up with new music as its produced.

Swimming with Bears instantly caught the attention of the crowd when they announced they were in all the way from Texas joining Cruisr on a weeklong east coast tour. Later, I also found out they gained some Pittsburgh fans after opening for Weezer and Panic at the Disco at stage AE a couple months ago. The strong and soulful lead vocals were accompanied by some funky guitar and bass riffs definitely made the band stand out. You can check out their latest self titled EP on the band’s soundcloud.

Cruisr of Philadelphia took to the stage right before 9pm. First to sound check, then asked the crowd if they wanted the “cool guy” entrance. Which of course the crowd wanted, so the lights were shut off and the band said goodbye, only to take the stage again a minute later to some hype intro music. After the cool guy intro the bands pop punk sound kept the already upbeat crowd moving around. This was Cruisr’s first headline tour and they already had a solid turn out for their show with fans singing along. To hear some of their stuff you can check out the band’s soundcloud or website, cruisrtheband.com.
